Crashing the World Series

My good friends Jon and David were California hippies in the early 1970s. And they also could be hilarious con men.

Here's an example: the tale of how they attended the 1974 World Series with little more than quick wits and the nerve of born practical jokers.

I sold this story to California Living, the Sunday magazine of the San Francisco Examiner & Chronicle while in grad school at UC Berkeley. It's probably my first byline in a professional publication.

Reading it almost 40 years later, I can see a few rough spots in the narrative. And I have to question some of the facts. But it's still pretty damn funny.
